Panama has the only seaport in the world with two oceans on its sides, the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean; 80 kilometers separate both seas through the Isthmus.
This maritime connectivity, commanded by the Canal since its construction in 1914, has allowed the development of ports for transshipment of the largest containers in the region, accompanied by the Colón Free Zone, making the country the leading trade hub in Latin America.
Recently, and under public hearing, the formal consultation period for the Panama Canal concluded, aiming to approve a simplified toll structure that reduces the number of rates. The process started on April 1, 2022, when the proposal to modify the tolls and the rules for vessel measurement by the Panama Canal was published.
“Innovative investments are already being made to capitalize on these changes and strengthen the Panama Canal's role in connecting smarter and more sustainable supply chains,” said the Panama Canal Vice President of Finance, Víctor Vial.
